I graduated in 1986 at Maidstone College of Art. My career has been necessarily varied if not conventional. I trained as a joiner after leaving Maidstone, became a woodwork teacher and had a less than lucrative period making furniture. In 1995 I resigned myself to finding a job and spent the next 9 years as an ice sculptor at Icebox in London. In 2004 I left life in a freezer and made a full return to painting and printmaking. I now live at the foot of the Cheviots in Northumberland.
If there is a recurring theme in my work it is looking through things; through trees, through figures and through the surface. I like pictorial mechanisms that move the viewer's gaze both emphatically and subtly; springs and arrows, snakes and ladders.
